Sloan optotypes are highly calibrated to provide the most accurate testing results. Each Sloan optotype adheres to a the Snellen 5x5 grid. The optotype must take up a precise amount of room in this square to be considered for testing. Also, each optotype must maintain an equal blur at threshold to the other optotypes along with equal difficulty. By following these specifications, Sloan optotypes provide accurate and reliable results that are repeatable.
