Advanced Customized Low Vision Solutions

Precision Vision® Expands Portfolio with High-Performance MultiLens Custom Optics

The scale of degenerative retinal pathologies presents an urgent clinical challenge. Over 20 million Americans currently manifest early or intermediate Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD), and statistically, one in five will navigate progressive vision loss. Precision Vision® is profoundly committed to supporting these individuals by equipping Eye Care Professionals (ECPs) with top-tier optical systems that exceed lane expectations, sourcing premier designs from world-class laboratories like Schweizer, S. Walters, and our newly integrated **MultiLens portfolio**.

Too often, low vision patients are told by primary providers that “nothing more can be done,” a message that frequently triggers deep depression and a loss of hope. Assuming total blindness is inevitable, many surrender their independence, relying on others for private daily tasks like reading correspondence or balancing statements. Yet, while central vision may be compromised, the careful integration of targeted training, optimized illumination, and precise magnification can restore profound levels of autonomy.

The MultiLens portfolio is engineered to grant practitioners ultimate design flexibility. By pairing advanced substrate geometries with creative optical applications, MultiLens enables the ECP to dispense custom-made prescription solutions directly from the exam room or dispensary on the very same visit.

PRODUCT PROFILE

ML VIDI – Wide Field Telescope System

MultiLens breaks away from rigid traditional templates by fundamentally rethinking telescope design, and the **ML VIDI** system is a prime example. Traditional high-magnification systems inherently suffer from severe narrowing of the visual field, causing orientation loss and image shake. The ML VIDI bypasses this constraint by employing a slightly lower $1.8\times$ base magnification paired with an exceptionally wide visual field.

This broad tracking window allows the patient to approach an object closely while keeping the entire object in view. Because this shorter working distance creates its own natural proximity magnification, the *real retinal magnification* scales up significantly. Practitioners secure powerful, usable magnification entirely free from the claustrophobic side effects of a constricted field. Furthermore, the shortened working distance minimizes the need for a completely rigid posture, allowing a stable image even during minor head movement.

The ML VIDI is remarkably versatile, supporting individual Rx sphere/cylinder corrections, diverse frame styles, and precise structural adjustments. The unique system utilizes a special carrier mounting lens that can be edged to almost any commercial frame shape. ECPs can edge this carrier disc on an in-house laboratory edger or simply route it to their local wholesale optical laboratory along with routine Rx work.

Available in an easy-to-use Trial Test Box (Includes 2 basic systems, multi-distance front lenses, and manual).

ML FILTERS – Colors for Comfort, Contrast, and Retinal Protection

Multilens has pioneered the development of medical absorptive filters that block precise bands of the light spectrum. These filters are prescribed to enhance visual acuity, maximize spatial contrast, and reduce photophobia, while shielding vulnerable structures from short-wave radiation.

As light enters an un-tinted ocular medium, high-energy blue wavelengths scatter randomly within the vitreous chamber, creating a veil of visual noise across the macula. ML Filter lenses sharply sever this disruptive blue spectrum. This filtration instantly increases visual comfort and resolution—a critical upgrade for low vision patients who are entirely dependent on sparse retinal signals.

Clinical consensus shows that short-wave UV and high-energy visible (HEV) blue light accelerate retinal phototoxicity. The shorter the wavelength, the higher the quantum energy levels striking the tissue. While optical magnification yields a sharp image, pairing it with precise medical filters and optimized illumination is vital for complete visual rehabilitation.

Supplied as stock blanks for the VIDI system, uncut plano blanks for customized glazing, or magnetic diagnostic "flirps" (pictured right).

ML BINO – High-Plus Binocular Prism Systems

The **ML Bino** allows low-vision patients to maintain binocular reading performance at exceptionally close working distances. When high-plus spherical power is added to focus micro-text onto the retina, the required reading distance shortens proportionally. At these micro-distances, standard physiological convergence is insufficient, leading to immediate diplopia (double vision) and severe muscular asthenopia.

To counter this neuromuscular strain, the ML Bino incorporates highly precise **base-in convergence prisms** directly into the lens geometry. Decentering and aligning the optical center relative to the patient's pupillary distance (PD) dictates the effective prismatic yield. For example, looking through a plus lens with the optical center positioned nasal to the visual axis generates a natural base-in prism effect. Consequently, patients presenting with a wider PD naturally receive a larger prismatic boost, though they must also converge more aggressively than patients with narrow PD metrics. Every ML Bino lens is surfaced and edged to strict tolerances to eliminate unwanted vertical prism imbalances, ensuring comfortable, sustained binocular reading.
